The cooperative has grown from the original 1,350 stations and 10 exchanges to 23 exchanges with an investment of $118 million and an annual total operating revenue of $38 million. Eligible Telecommunications Carrier On December 17, 1997, the Tennessee Regulatory Authority designated WK&T as the “Eligible Telecommunications Carrier” within its service area for universal service purposes. The goal of universal service is to provide all Tennessee citizens access to essential telecommunications services. WK&T provides single pa y residence with unlimited local usage and business service for reasonable rates each month. This includes access to:
broadband. The cooperative also offers security, voice , digital TV and over-the-top streaming services to over 15,000 residential and business subscribers in Kentucky and Tennessee. Our mission is to offer leading-edge technology, excellent customer service and suppo to our members with a goal to achieve complete satisfaction. For nearly 70 years, bringing high-tech solutions to rural areas in Western Kentucky and Tennessee has always been the primary purpose for WK&T. The cooperative’s first REA loan was received in 1953 with construction sta ing in that year. The cutover was in 1955 giving telecommunications services to 1,350 residences through 10 exchanges. Although it was an eight pa y service as provided by REA specification, it was a modern dial service. W.L. Parr was appointed manager and served until his death in 1962. A er Mr. Parr’s death, Percy Finks was appointed as manager in 1962, and he served until his retirement in 1976. Then Glen B. Sears took over the reins of management until his retirement in 1998. In February 1998, Trevor R. Bonnste er became the fou h general manager of WK&T, coming from River Valley Telephone Cooperative in Grae inger, Iowa. Under the direction of Bonnste er, WK&T has grown into a world-class telecommunications company, providing modern and up-to-date services to rural citizens of Western Kentucky and No hwest Tennessee. Inaddition,WK&Thaspursuedstateand federal grants anddeveloped unique public-private pa nerships to aggressively expand fiber broadband throughout the West Kentucky and Tennessee region. In 2009, WK&T pursued and was awarded a $123.8 million grant/ loan through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act — the largest amount awarded by the federal government that year. WK&T has continued to impact its service area, providing the critical infrastructure to suppo and enrich the lives of residents and businesses in Weakley and Henry counties.

WK&T offers qualified customers Lifeline Service. You may qualify for Lifeline Service if you meet low-income eligibility requirements. Lifeline Service includes a monthly discount for basic phone charges, as well as toll blocking to qualifying customers.
