TYPES OF CALLS

Calling Card Customers who have telephone calling cards may place calls and charge them to their card number. Calling card rates are less expensive than collect calls. Collect You may call collect if the person or firm you are calling agrees to pay the charges. Dial the call and when the operator comes on the line, say you’re placing a collect call and give your name. The operator will leave the line when the person you’ve called accepts the charges. Collect calls are more expensive than dial direct or calling card calls.

Conference Calls You can talk with several people in different places at the same time. Dial the oper ator and say you wish to make a “conference” call. A special charge will be made for this type of call.

International Calls You can call practically every telephone in the world from your telephone. See page 18 for information. Person-to-Person Call person-to-person when you wish to reach a particular person or extension number. Dial 0 + number. When the operator comes on the line, say you’re making a person-to-per son call and give the name of the person you want to talk to. The operator will leave the line when the person you’re calling has answered. Person-to-person calls are more expensive.

Dial Direct If you’re willing to speak with anyone who answers the phone, dial direct. By dialing your own long distance calls, you pay the lowest rate.

TYPES OF CALLS

Time and Charges When placing a long distance call, you ask the operator to tell you the length of time you talked and how much it cost. Dial the call. When the operator comes on the line, say that you want the time and charges when the call is completed. The operator will ask you to stay on the line at the end of the conversation.

Toll Free Numbers Long distance calls made to 800 series numbers are free to the caller. Although there is no charge to place the call initially, your long distance company may bill you the pay phone surcharge.

Third Number You may have long distance charges billed to an authorized third telephone number. Dial 0 + number. When the operator comes on the line, say you would like to charge your call to a third number and give the operator that number including the area code. The operator may verify the third number charge before advancing your call. Third number calls are more expensive than dial direct or calling card calls.

Call Station-To-Station (1+) Whenever you are reasonably sure the person you want to reach will be there, or if you’ll talk with anyone who answers, call station-to-station. Calling person-to-person can cost more than twice as much as a station-to-station call. Avoid Involving an Operator (0+) Person-to-person, collect, requests for time and charges, and calls charged to another number all require the services of an operator. As a result, these types of calls cost more. Schedule Your Calls If you call someone frequently, try to arrange a specific time when he or she will be there to take your call. Don’t Pay for Wrong Numbers If you reach a wrong number, let the operator know right away so you won’t be charged for it. To help you to avoid wrong numbers, keep the area code and number you are calling before you as you dial. EQUAL ACCESS

Ben Lomand Connect provides equal access for all your calls. This means you may select your long distance carrier for your local toll and your long distance toll which you will automatically access by dialing “1+”. Your carrier selection does not have to be the same. You may choose different carriers. Your local business office can provide you with a list of available carriers. Questions regarding the rates and services for the various carriers can be obtained by contacting the carrier directly. If you wish to change your long distance carrier(s), contact your local business office. There is a charge for making these changes. You may also make calls using a long distance carrier other than the one you have selected to handle your 1 + calls. To do this, dial the appropriate five-digit access code (10XXX) for that carrier. Each long distance carrier can provide you with their five-digit access code. You will need to establish an account with each long distance carrier you use.
