On display at the museum is the historic “Fricot Nugget.” The Fricot is not just a gold nugget as the name implies, but is actually a magnificent crystallized gold specimen taken from the Grit mine at Spanish Dry Diggins in El Dorado County in 1865. The Fricot is one of the finest and largest crystallized native gold nuggets found during the gold rush era and is part of the California Mineral Collection housed at the museum.
