Mountain Area Residents: Most residents in the mountain areas are already aware of the fire dangers that threaten them during the summer season. Nonetheless, an emergency warning system will be put in place. The County Sheriff and Fire Departments have the primary responsibility in alerting and warning the general public, with assistance from the County Public Information Officers as deemed necessary. Alerting and warning of the general public may be accomplished via the Emergency Alert System, special broadcast through the National Weather Service on TV/ Radio/Cable and the Sheriff Department’s “Reverse 911” systems. Residents who need to evacuate their premises may be informed via the above systems, and also informed of the “place of safety” where they need to assemble. 1) How Can I Protect My Home From Wild Land Fire? • Have a minimum 100 ft clearance around your home.

5) Cooperate With Public Safety Efforts • Do not use your telephone during an area emergency except to report medical, fire or violent crime emergencies. • Keep streets and driveways clear for emergency vehicles. • Turn on your portable radio for information and damage reports. • Cooperate with Public Safety Officials. • Do not go into damaged areas unless your help is requested.
