Equipment Information Troubleshooting

Important Inside Wire Information: Responsibilities of the Building Owner: Inside Wire is considered the property of the building owner. If the building owner is a residential landlord (lessor), the building owner is responsible for installing at least one usable telephone jack per rental unit, for placing and maintaining the inside telephone wiring in good working order, for ensuring that the inside telephone wiring meets the applicable standard of the most recent National Electrical Code as adopted by the Electronic Industry Association, and for making any required repairs to the inside telephone wire. You may want to consider establishing a mutual agreement with the tenant for reimbursement of repair charges or maintenance contract costs. Responsibilities Of Sierra Telephone: Sierra Telephone is available to maintain and repair Inside Wire and will work with the customer to determine whether a malfunction in a telephone line is located in the customer’s Inside Wire or in the telephone company’s network. If it is determined that the Inside Wire is the problem, the customer will be informed of all rates, charges, and options. Overvoltage Protection: Sierra Telephone provides primary overvoltage protection at the customer premise. Secondary overvoltage protection to prevent damage to terminal equipment (modems, computers, answering devices, etc.) connected to the telephone network interface is the customer’s responsibility. Sierra Telephone assumes no liability for damaged electrical terminal equipment caused by power surges or lightning.

Take the following steps to determine if the trouble is in your modular equipment or inside wiring. 1. Check both ends of your handset cord and wall cord to make sure they are plugged in tight. If they are and the trouble persists: 2. Try another phone in your wall plug; one of your extensions or a neighbor’s phone. If the other phone works, the trouble is probably in your phone or cord. Test the cord of the other phone on your telephone. If the phone works, the trouble is in your cord. If it does not work, the trouble is in the phone itself. 3. If you cannot obtain another phone to make these tests with, you can bring your phone into the Business Office and we will test it at no charge. 4. If, in Step 2 above, the other phone does not work in your wall plug, the trouble is probably in the inside wiring, central office switching equipment or telephone company line. 5. If the trouble is in our switching equipment or telephone company line and not your telephone or wiring, call us back and we will repair the trouble at no charge. Note: If you have an interface, you will be advised as to how to test your equipment using that device.
