PRIVACY POLICY

The Following Describes Shenandoah Telephone Company’s (STC) Privacy Policy For Our Telephone Company Customers. STC has strict policies governing employee access to customer records. We access customer accounts, records or reports for autho- rized business purposes only. We educate our employees about their obligation to safeguard customer information and telephone calls, and we hold them accountable for their actions. Personal information obtained by STC is used to provide service, and we use that information for business purposes only. For example: We need to know your name, address and the services you buy from us in order to properly deliver the services. When you call us, a service repre- sentative refers to your customer record to serve you better. Information regarding your telephone bill, your calling patterns and whether you have special needs allows us to offer you the most effective services for your particular needs. We also may use information in our records to investigate fraud or harassment, or other illegal activities. We want to make sure the information we obtain and use is accurate. Much of this information is reflected in your monthly telephone bill. If you see an inaccuracy on your bill, please let us know, so we can correct it. STC regularly provides useful information about new products and services to our customers, including our customers with non-published telephone numbers. Consumers who do not wish to receive such direct mail can “opt out” or have their names removed from direct mail and telemarketing lists that we use internally. You should know that when you speak with us at STC, a supervisor might also be listening to the call. Supervisors listen in only to help train employees and ensure that we provide you with accurate information and high-quality customer service. In fact, we keep our records of the services you buy and the calls you make private, and will not disclose this information to outside parties without your permission. However, we do release information without involving you if disclosure is required by law, to comply with court orders or subpoenas. STC also will share information to protect its rights or property and to protect users of its services and other carriers from fraudulent, abusive or unlawful use of services. When you dial 911, information about your location may be transmitted automatically to a public safety agency.

We also may provide information to collection agencies about former customer accounts that are in arrears. STC is also required by law to share your information with certain other companies including your long distance provider. Certain information about your long distance calls is transmitted to your long distance company for billing purposes. STC is required by law to give competitive local exchange carriers access to its directory assistance database for purposes of serving their customers, to exchange credit information with other carriers, and to provide listings (other than certain non-published and non-listed infor- mation) to directory publishers. You tell us the telephone listings you want to include in our directories and in directory assistance. You also may choose to have a non-pub- lished number or a non-listed number. All customers in areas where Caller ID services are available have the ability to block the display of their phone numbers and names; however Caller ID blocking does not prevent the transmission of your phone number when you dial 911 and certain business numbers, such as 800, 888, 877 and 900 numbers. STC also occasionally uses contractors to do work for the company. These contractors have the same obligations as our regular employees concerning customer information. The FCC refers to your telephone account information as Customer Proprietary Network Information or CPNI. Under Federal Law, you have the right to, and we have the duty to protect the confidentiality of your telecommunications service information. This information includes the type, technical arrangement, quantity, destination, and amount of use of telecommunications services and related billing for these services. We may use this information, without further authorization by you, to offer you: (i) services of the type you already purchase from us, and (ii) the full range of products and services available from Shenandoah Telephone Company and other Shentel companies that may be different from the type of services you currently buy from us. Use of your information will permit us to offer you a package of services tailored to your specific needs. Without further authorization by you, we may also share your information with other Shentel companies with whom you already have an existing service relationship. STC considers privacy implications as new services are planned and introduced and informs customers of the privacy implications of these services.

VIRGINIA RELAY INFORMATION Virginia Relay, offered through the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, is a public service which guarantees all citizens access to prompt, professional and accurate communication through the telephone. Consumers of these specialized services, specifically individuals who are deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing or have difficulty speaking, can communicate on the telephone via TTY, Voice Carry Over (VCO) , Hearing Carry Over (HCO) , Speech-to- Speech (STS) , Spanish and Captioned Telephone Service in order to connect with family, friends or businesses with ease. How Virginia Relay Works Dial 711 or the appropriate toll-free number provided to connect with Virginia Relay. A qualified Communication Assistant (CA) will ask for the area code and number of the person you wish to call and will begin relaying the conversation. Generally, the CA will voice the typed message from the text telephone (TTY ) user to the person on the other end. The CA then relays the spoken words by typing them back to the TTY user. Specialized Services Virginia Relay offers specialized services for individuals who have difficulty speaking and for Spanish speaking residents, which includes English to Spanish translation. Specially trained CAs are on hand to assist in these types of calls by dialing the associated number provided on this page. Since Virginia Relay offers a variety of services please refer to the website listed or call Virginia Relay Customer Care for more detailed instruction on how a particular call is processed. Captioned Telephone Service (CTS) Captioned Telephone Service is ideal for individuals with hearing loss who are able to speak for themselves. A captioned telephone works like any other telephone with an essential difference: it allows users to listen to their phone conversations while reading word-for-word captions of what’s said to them. Access To Services Both 711 and the 800 numbers are toll-free calls and provide access to the same relay services. If you are experiencing trouble dialing 711 to reach Virginia Relay, please call Virginia Relay Customer Care. All Virginia Relay Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Spanish Captioned Telephone Service is available daily from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. EST. Consumers may place relay calls to English and Spanish speaking persons within Virginia, across the United States and even internationally. By law, each conversation is handled with strict confidentiality.
