North Fork Bass Lake

marker confirms the site. The Center is a short drive (7 miles) from North Fork on Italian Bar Rd (Road 225) on the way to Redinger Lake. It is located just beyond a cattle guard on the left side of the road. Walk up the steps and have your picture taken on “the Exact Center of California.” Sierra Vista Scenic Byway This enchanting, scenic route takes you on a 100-mile journey through the Sierra Nevada range. It takes roughly five hours to travel the entire stretch from North Fork to the exit point on Highway 41, past the Nelder Grove of Giant Sequoias. Along the way, you’ll see an exhilarating view of Mammoth Pool, known for great fishing. Granite domes and secluded campgrounds can be found along the route, too. You can also take a half-mile hike to Fresno Dome, a natural wonder that resulted from glacial effects. When you have finished traveling this scenic Byway, be sure to visit the Nelder Grove Giant Sequoia Preservation Area, home to the Bull Buck, one of the largest and oldest trees in the world. Friant Lost Lake Recreation Area This wonderful recreation area was established in 1959 when a lease agreement for 76 acres was signed with the State Wildlife Conservation Board. An additional 229 acres was purchased that same year, bringing the total acreage of this popular San Joaquin River Park to 305 acres. Featured is a 38-acre lake and 70-acre primitive nature study area. Fishing, hiking, picnicking, bird watching and nature study activities combine to make Lost Lake Park one of the most popular areas in the county’s park system. There’s also a softball field, volleyball courts and two playgrounds on the premises. A 42-site campground is available. Located on Friant Road, one mile south of Millerton Road on Friant. Millerton Lake State Recreation Area This park offers a wide range of recreational opportunities, including boating, fishing, swimming and picnicking. Millerton has 138 campsites nestled among oak and pine trees, and there are several hiking and riding trails for visitors to enjoy. Our park staff offers campfire programs and guided tours on a seasonal basis. Check out the Bald Eagle Tours. School group tours are also available. Located 20 minutes northeast of Fresno. Just six miles from North Fork is one of California’s oldest and most scenic fishing and boating spots known as Bass Lake. Set in a picturesque alpine setting, Bass Lake also offers beaches, water skiing, watercraft rentals, hiking, biking, live entertainment, an old movie film site, evening cruises on the Bass Lake Queen and much more. Manzanita Lake This small lake is perfect for picnicking and family fishing. It is stocked with rainbow trout during the summer months. Located 1.6 miles north of North Fork on Willow Creek. Sierra Mono Museum & Cultural Center This is the only Indian museum solely built, owned and operated by the Mono people (established in 1971). It is filled with beautiful basketry, beadwork and a wildlife collection. You’ll see a fascinating display of a grizzly bear, mountain lion, golden eagle, coyote and other wildlife. An interpretive trail leads to the replica Indian Village and ends at the North Fork School outdoor amphitheater. Special events include the annual Indian Fair Days and Powwow, Membership Dinner as well as Winter Storytelling. Craft classes and basket making classes are offered. Memberships are available for youth, teens, adults and families, which include free museum admission, free annual membership dinner, 10% off at the museum gift shop and a quarterly newsletter.
