Community Spotlight

North Fork North Fork is a picturesque community nestled in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains at the exact center of California. It was a genuine logging town and has a mid-1900s flavor. A rich Indian history fills the area as it has been the dwelling place of Mono Indians for hundreds of years. It is the jumping off point for the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway, which Sunset Magazine calls the most spectacular little-known drive in California. O’Neals O’Neals is a sprawling foothill community of primarily cattle/livestock rangeland and home to Ponderosa’s Corporate Headquarters since 1908. Here, K-12 digital education is in the spotlight for the Chawanakee Unified School District. Minarets High School has received world-wide attention for their fresh approach to student development, and innovative digital curriculum relevant to today’s digital society. Ponderosa is honored to supply technology services to these outstanding schools. Shaver Lake If you can imagine an outdoor sport or adventure, you will find it at the Shaver Lake Recreation Area. This four seasons high-Sierra recreation destination offers rustic to lavish accommodations, access to the pristine wilderness of the Sierra National Forest and a multitude of trails, lakes and streams. Alpine-style Shaver Village greets visitors with shopping, and dining, followed by Shaver Lake — a spectacular setting for boating, fishing, camping and swimming. Huntington Lake is known as one of the finest sailing lakes in the United States and is the site of the annual High Sierra Sailing Regatta in the summer. Head to China Peak for skiing in winter, plus a variety of activities and special events throughout the summer. Mono Hot Springs begins the path of the Mono Indian trade route across the Sierra to Bishop, CA. Plan to visit the Central Sierra Historical Society’s “museum without walls” to discover the wild pioneering history of the area. Wishon The small community of Wishon can be found at the southwest corner of Bass Lake, just south of Yosemite National Park. Wishon offers a great deal of outdoor adventure. Great fishing abounds in nearby Bass Lake and Manzanita Lake or you may try fishing in one of the numerous streams. In addition, plenty of opportunities exist for hiking, mountain biking and off road trails. Wishon is home to Skylake Yosemite Camp.
