The old courthouse was built in 1896 and was constructed of pressed yellow brick and Bedford limestone. The citizens of Cannelton raised the money needed to build the structure and gave it to the county as a location for the new courthouse after the county seat was moved from Rome in 1859. The museum is involved in many special occasions throughout the year including the Annual Quilt Show, Dogwood Tour, Annual Antique Doll Show and Fall Festival. Individuals, as well as groups and schools, are encouraged to tour the Perry County Courthouse Museum. It is open regularly on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and at additional times by appointment. Ramey Riding Stables Horse lovers will want to get away to these stables and indoor arena where boarding, riding lessons, and leisurely trail rides are available. Located next to Friendly Farms Condo-Cottage and Lodge on Hwy 45, three miles west of Rockport and one mile east of State Rd. 161. For more information, call 270-570-3054. Riverplace Completed in 1863, this native sandstone building was a hotel from the late 1860s till the 1950s. Located on the Ohio River in Troy, the Riverplace is listed on the state register of Historic Places and can be toured during the Dogwood and Fall Festivals. Fun and Festivities

Rockport Bluff See the spectacular view of the Ohio River from the bluff area. This beautiful rock-sculp tured cliff is the end of the rock formations that outline the Ohio River on the Indiana shore. The image of Martha Washington can be seen among the formations. Located on River Road at the east end of Main Street in Rockport. Rockport Town Christmas Star This beautiful Christmas Star, mounted 150’ high on the bluff in Rockport, is believed to be one of the tallest positioned stars in our nation. Lighted from the day after Thanksgiving through New Year’s. Located on the bluff on the East end of Main Street in Rockport. Rome Courthouse The first Perry County Courthouse, construct ed in 1818, was located in Rome. It served as the Courthouse from 1819-1859. It was made of brown, handmade bricks, standing on a high foundation. It was a two-story square structure with octagonal cupola strongly resembling the old state capital in Corydon. Rome Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Courthouse can be seen during Established in 1846 by an immigrant Croatian missionary, the first church was a log build ing. In 1860 construction for the present St. Boniface Church was started, but construc tion was halted during the Civil War. The church’s foundation is seven feet thick. A limestone slab above the main door reads the Dogwood and Fall Festivals. St. Boniface Catholic Church

Monte Cassino Shrine The Chapel of Monte Cassino is located on a hill near Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad. Surrounded by trees and panoram ic views of the Anderson Valley, the shrine is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Rosary pilgrimages are held each Sunday at 2 p.m. during the months of May and October. A Benedictine monk celebrates Mass in the chapel each Saturday at 8 a.m. Shrine hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. the rest of the year. To visit the shrine, follow Indiana 62 east through St. Meinrad and look for a sign on the left that marks the shrine entrance. Ohio River Scenic Route Scenic Route Hwy 66 stretches through the southern portion of Spencer and Perry counties, following the Ohio River through river towns, colorful wooded areas and vast farmlands. Patoka Lake A 26,000-acre recreation area, Patoka Lake offers an 8,800-acre lake with campgrounds, a swimming beach and paved biking and hiking trails. Open year round. Solar-heated Visitor Center offers the Raptor Education Program that includes illustrated displays on wildlife, history, birds of prey, solar ener gy and the viewing of a live bald eagle.
