Santa’s Candy Castle Santa’s Candy Castle has delighted thou- sands of all ages since its original dedication on December 22, 1935 as the first tourist attraction in Santa Claus, Indiana, and the first themed attraction in the United States. The Candy Castle has been completely restored and was opened to the public in July, 2006, first time in over 30 years. The castle once again operates as a free attraction, enabling a whole new generation to experience its magic. There is always something new to see or do at Santa’s Candy Castle, located 15499 N. Santa Claus Museum The Santa Claus Museum, located in Santa Claus, Indiana, holds behind its walls the mystery and wonder of Christmas. Along with displays about the surrounding area, the Christmas exhibit serves as a reminder of a simpler time. It displays the gift of giving with- out the commercialism. During the Christmas season volunteers gather to write letters from Santa Claus to whoever wrote to him. The Santa Claus Museum is located at 69 State Road 245, Santa Claus, Indiana. Santa Claus Post Office The Santa Claus Post Office is the only post office in the world bearing the Santa Claus name. Stop by to receive the famous Santa Claus postmark during the Christmas season and see where thousands of children’s letters to Santa are received each year. Located at 45 N. Kringle Place in Santa Claus. 812-937-4469 Santa Claus Statue Twenty-two feet high and made of concrete, it weighs over forty tons. The base alone, in the shape of the Star of Bethlehem, with its principal point showing the way East to the land of the Christmas legend, is over twen- ty feet across, rising one and one half feet above the ground and set about four feet into the ground for support. Spencer County Courthouse This historic courthouse is located near the bluff on a square at the end of Main Street in Rockport’s downtown area. The courthouse is a 1921 Elmer Dunlap design that features a spectacular stained-glass dome towering over a grand rotunda and with marble trimmed walls. The Spencer County courthouse was added to the State Register of Historic Sites in 1999. Spencer County Memorial Forest This forest offers spectacular foliage and features a towering World War II Veteran’s Memorial nestled in the midst of its tran- quil surroundings. There are shelter houses available for picnics and events. The forest is located on County Road 1550 off Hwy 545 in Fulda. Sunset Park and the Floodwall Mural The floodwall mural boasts the saying, “Like the mighty river, our heritage withstands the test of time.” This enormous painting pays tribute to the early days of Perry County. Each building, boat and person illustrated has played a significant part in our local history. Among the sights depicted are Tell City’s City Hall, the train depot, flourmill, blacksmith shop and “Old Rock House,” the oldest standing residence in town. Located in Sunset Park, in Tell City, the flood wall mural took three years, from 1992-1994, to complete.

“St. Boniface Kirche, 1865.” The church has beautiful wooden alters and original stenciling on the ceiling. The pillars of the church were made of tree trunks covered with plaster. The stones of the original baked stone floor in the sanctuary were cleaned and refurbished. St. Boniface Catholic Church was placed on the national register of Historic Places on October 30, 1980. It is located on Hwy 545 in Fulda. St. Joseph Church This 1880 Romanesque, old world style church is listed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places. It includes price- less German stained glass windows, Austrian designed mosaics with 50 million stones and pewter and marble statues. Open Mon - Thurs 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., & Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. It is located at 13th & Newton Streets, Jasper. 812-482-1805 Saint Meinrad Archabbey Founded in 1854, Saint Meinrad Archabbey is home to a community of Benedictine monks. The community operates Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, Abbey Press and Abbey Caskets. You are welcome to join the monks for prayer, and tours of the campus are avail- able. Stop by the Guest House for a Visitor’s Guide that includes a walking tour or to begin an audio tour. Monk-led tours are offered each Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Seminary and School of Theology pro- vides education and formation for priesthood candidates, lay ministers and permanent deacons. The Guest House and Retreat Center offers accommodations and retreats. Saint Meinrad Archabbey Gift Shop is open daily. The Abbey Caskets showroom, located at one end of the gift shop, is also open daily.
