ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION

THE HOMEOWNER’S REFERRAL GUIDE WAS DESIGNED WITH DISCERNING HOMEOWNERS IN MIND. The recent decline of printed telephone directories, and the classified “Yellow Pages” they contained, has left many homeowners looking for a reliable source of contractors and home service professionals (Providers) when they need to repair, maintain and improve their homes. When selecting a Provider, homeowners can improve their chances of a good experience by limiting the Providers to those that meet certain important criteria. These criteria are:

- Years of Experience - BBB Rating

- Online Customer Reviews - Number of Homeowner Complaints

- Workers’ Compensation Insurance - General Liability Insurance

Each of the Providers contained in this publication have been pre-screened to ensure they meet or exceed the requirements we have set for them to be included in the Referral Guide. Our requirements are as follows:

Years of Experience: Providers in this publication have been in business an average of 19.1 years*.

Better Business Bureau Rating (BBB): To qualify to appear in the Referral Guide, a Provider must be A+ rated by the BBB*.

Customer Reviews: To qualify to appear in the Referral Guide, a Provider must have online customer reviews. The average number of online reviews for businesses in this publication is 49.3 with an average of 4.7 stars*. The experience of other homeowners is a good indication of whether or not a Provider will be a good fit for you. Homeowner Complaints: To qualify to appear in the Referral Guide, a Provider must have fewer than two complaints per year on file with the BBB. The average number of complaints for the Providers in the Referral Guide is .07 per year*. That’s the equivalent of just one complaint every 14 years ! Workers’ Compensation Insurance: Providers that have more than one employee must, by law, provide their workers with workers’ compensation insurance. If a worker is injured when working on your home, and the business you hired does not provide its employees with workers’ compensation insurance, the injured worker could seek compensation from you for their medical expenses. If a worker has workers’ compensation insurance, medical expenses due to a job-related injury will be covered by the insurance*. General Liability Insurance: To qualify to appear in the Referral Guide, each Provider must have a general liability insurance policy with a minimum coverage value of one million dollars*. Damages to a homeowner’s home or property due to a Provider’s employees would be covered by the insurance. Insurance and licenses can expire or be canceled; homeowners should always check such information for themselves. When any call is placed to a Provider through the telephone number published in the Referral Guide, standard caller identification information is collected, including the caller’s phone number and the name to which the line is registered. In addition, each call is recorded. The recording is temporarily stored by the Referral Guide. Your use of any of the information available in the Referral Guide in which this disclaimer appears shall constitute your acceptance of these terms.
