From atop Lookout Mountain to the white sandy beaches of the Gulf Coast, beauty abounds in Alabama. The Yellowhammer State has contributedmore to the world than just great landscapes, though. Alabama natives who have shared their remarkable talents include Harper Lee, Helen Keller, Condoleezza Rice, W.C. Handy, Nat King Cole, Channing Tatum, Cou eney Cox, Hank Williams, Lionel Richie, Emmylou Harris, the Louvin Brothers, Vestal Goodman and country supergroup Alabama, along with spo s greats like Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Charles Barkley and Jesse Owens. Cities across Alabama havemuch to offer for travelers or anyone looking for a great place to live. Huntsville is where America’s space programwas born, and it is a center of culture for the state with its many museums, including the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. Dr. Ma in Luther King Jr. delivered a moving speech from the steps of Montgomery’s Capitol building at the conclusion of the Selma-to-Montgomery civil rights march. On the southern coast are Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, where the sand is sugar white. Visitors can enjoy deep-sea fishing or a ractions like Adventure Island, Orange Beach Golf Center, Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, Waterville USA and The Wha . Alabamians even have their own island. Dauphin Island, a barrier island 3 miles south of Mobile Bay in the Gulf of Mexico, is known for great bird-watching and a relaxing, family-friendly atmosphere.
