All Listings Are In Alphabetical Order To Find the Name: 1. Find the page. See key names at top corner. (Key names are the first and last names on each page.) 2. Find the column. Scan columns across top of page. Select column where name would be likely to appear. REFERENCE LIST How To Find Listings Quick and Easy 4. Initials precede first names, such as: Doe J would precede Doe John. 5. Abbreviations appear alphabetically as if the word were spelled out, such as: St. Johns would appear as if spelled out Saint Johns. 6. Names with prefixes are treated as a single word, such as McDoe John. 7. The article “The” usually follows the firm name, such as Doe Manufacturing Co., The. 3. Find the name. Check down the column to the name you want.
8. Titles are placed after the entire name, such as: Doe John IV.
Government Listings: 1. State offices – See California State of 2. City offices – See (Name of city) City of
3. County offices – See (Name of county) County of 4. Federal offices – See United States Government
Letters Used As Names: 1. Find at the beginning of the listings of that letter. Example: R L Institute – see beginning of the Rs. It will be listed alphabetically. Numbers Used As Names: 1. Find number as it is spelled. Example: 299 Corner Café – see Two Hundred Ninety-Nine Corner Café.
