DO NOT CALL INFORMATION

‘Do Not Call’ Information

The Law: The State of Nevada, with its adoption of NRS 228.500 through 228.640, now has a “do not call” law that works in combination with the federal “do not call” law. These laws allow you to limit telemarketing calls you receive by placing your number on the “do not call” registry.

• No information contained in the registry, other than the telephone numbers, will be included on the list published pursuant to the law or otherwise disclosed to the public. • The Federal Trade Commission will not drop any telephone numbers from the National Do Not Call Registry. • Once your number is entered in the National Do Not Call Registry, telemarketers and sellers covered by the FTC’s rules must remove your phone number from their call lists. Telemarketers are required to search the registry every 31 days and delete from their call lists phone numbers that are in the registry. Phone numbers in the registry also may be shared with law en forcement to assure compliance with federal and state law. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. To regis ter, visit the national registry’s website at donotcall.gov or call 888-382-1222. Registering a number for the national registry automatically registers that number with the Nevada registry.

FERNLEY INFORMATION

Fernley’s Beginnings In 1850, when the Territory of Utah was created by Congress, the area that is now Fernley was located on its western border. The state of Nevada was admitted to the Union on October 31, 1864. The journey to statehood, however, was not without a great deal of work and effort. In 1857, Congress was asked to create a new ter ritory out of the “Great American Basin.” This region included parts of California, Arizona and what is now Nevada. The area was referred to as the “Territory of Sierra,” “Carson Territory” or “Washoe County.” In 1858, it was proposed that Nevada be carved out of western Utah, but pro-slav ery Southerners stalled the bill. Finally, in 1859, the citizens of the western “Great Basin” met, seceded from the Utah Terri tory and created the territory of “Nevada.” It was not until March, 1861, however, that President Buchanan signed the bill creat ing the Nevada Territory. In 1862, legislators met in Carson City to create a State of “Washoe.” In November 1863, there was discussion and disagree ment about the name. Other names that were considered included “Humboldt,” “Nevada,” and “Esmeralda.” When the de bate was complete, the name “Nevada,” meaning “snow-covered,” was accepted in July, 1864. Mining, farming, timber, railroads and water projects were the key factors in the growth of the Fernley area. Today, with a popula tion of approximately 20,000, Fernley of fers a rural lifestyle with big city amenities. Location is Everything! Fernley is located in Northwest Neva da along Interstate 80, approximate ly 28 miles east of Reno and a short drive away from beautiful Lake Tahoe. Because of its unique location, Fern ley provides direct freeway, highway and rail ( freight ) access to West Coast markets.

Environmental Factors Fernley’s elevation is approximately 4,200 feet with the surrounding mountain rang es reaching 10,000 feet, making Fernley a good place to experience all four seasons. Annual rainfall is 5 inches. There are over 300 days of sunshine and virtually no se vere winter conditions. Average tempera tures range from a low of 28 degrees to a high of 92 degrees.

Its growth is driven by career opportunities, a state government that is business friend ly, outstanding education at all levels, a tax structure that is friendly to residents and businesses, a convenient location and a great climate. Fernley and the surrounding area are an outdoor enthusiast’s dream, of fering hiking and horse trails, off-roading, golfing, fishing and a wide variety of other activities.
