August Art Fair on the Square

Oktoberfest Enjoy the fall season with a German tradition! Held at the Morgan County Fairgrounds, sponsored by the Jacksonville Rotary Club. October Grant’s March This event features reenactments based on Ulysses S. Grant’s march from Springfield to Naples, IL. Grant led the 21st Illinois Volunteer Infantry regiment on this march on July 3, 1861. The event also offers a free self-guided driving tour, old-fashioned root beer at the fair- grounds, homemade pies at Exeter Community Park, maps at every stop, and more. Held rain or shine. Virginia City Wide Fall Garage Sale Families and organizations throughout the city of Virginia hold yard or This is held on the Historic Downtown Square for a weekend of free family fun! November Beardstown Christmas Parade Saturday after Thanksgiving. Night Time Christmas Parade with lights, music and bringing Santa to Sponsored by Woodhaven: Hospice and Special Support Services, this annual event gathers folks together for holiday food, gifts and live entertainment. Held each August in Central Park Plaza, the Art Fair on the Square brings together artists from across the Midwest to display, demon- strate and sell their works. Includes street painting, children’s art fair, music, and concessions. Free parking. Donations accepted. Chandlerville Annual Burgoo & Fish Fry Traditional harvest-style burgoo, flea market, carnival, pancake break- fast, parade, evening entertainment, dancing and more at Elmwood Park. Taste of Beardstown Come out and taste the ethnic foods. Dar Annual Ice Cream Social Held on the lawn of the Historic Governor Joseph Duncan Mansion, enjoy delicious desserts and Big Band entertainment. Enjoy a unique combination of Mexican and American traditions at this annual event, which takes place at Art Zeek Park in downtown Beardstown. Activities include folk dancing, musical performances and a traditional “grito.” Prairieland Chautauqua Modeled after traditional Chautauquas, and featuring musical shows, his- torical storytellers, catered communal suppers, and evenings with experi- enced re-enactors representing famous Americans. Four days of Historic re-enactments, Labor Day Weekend. Takes place at Community Park. Mayor’s Labor Day Ice Cream Social Enjoy ice cream, cake, food and entertainment. Held in Virginia. Flea Market One of Central Illinois’ largest outdoor flea markets. Antiques, white elephants, crafts, concessions and more. Free parking and admission. Central Park Plaza, Jacksonville. Arenzville Burgoo Carnival, music groups, burgoo soup, craft fair, tractor pull, and many other events. Held at Village Park on West Main. Beardstown Fall Fun Festival Parade, crafts, food, entertainment, 5K run, car show and motorcycle show. 217-323-3271 Annual Cruise Night & Street Rod Reunion One of the largest Cruise Nights in Illinois, this event brings more than 1,000 classic and antique autos in for a weekend of fun for young and old alike. Events include 50s and 60s musical entertainment, cruise on Saturday night, and Sunday is the car show. This is held the fourth weekend in September. Free parking and admission. Prairie Land Heritage Museum Annual Antique Steam Engine Show Witness horse and steam powered equipment demonstrating early farming techniques. See plowing, threshing, baling, grinding and molasses production. Enjoy a ride on the “Prairie Land Express,” watch the steam powered tractor parade or participate in a contest like the Pedal Tractor Pull. Free parking. Small fee for admission.
