REGULATIONS
Use of Service The right of the customer is to use the equip- ment and service furnished under such rules as the Company may, from time to time, prescribe for the purpose of personal com- munication. The use of service is restricted to the customer and his family, or his employees, depending upon the customer’s business. Taxes The Federal Revenue Act imposes a tax on both local and long distance service. The amount of these taxes at the rates imposed by law are included in your monthly statement. The telephone service and facilities furnished in Kentucky are also subject to taxes imposed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and local governments. Telephone Numbers The customer has no property right to the telephone number or any right to continuance of service through any particular central office. The Telephone Company may change the telephone number or the central office designation, or both, of a customer whenever it deems it advisable in the conduct of its business to do so. Advertising Telephone Numbers Residential telephones are installed on the understanding that they will be used for normal social purposes and not in connection with any business. Advertising residential telephone num- bers for business purposes will be considered sufficient cause for the Telephone Company to charge the business rate without further notice.
Customers Responsible for Long Distance Charges Customers will be held responsible for all long distance messages originating or received collect at their telephones, whether made by themselves or others; for this reason it is sug- gested that customers refrain from permitting outsiders to use their telephones for any calls. Telephone Safety The telephone is one of the safest appliances in your home or office. There are, however, a few situations where a telephone user needs to be cautious. Use of the telephone near water The telephone should not be used while you are in a bathtub, shower or pool. Immersion of the telephone or handset in water could cause an electrical shock. Use of the telephone during an electrical storm You should avoid using a telephone during an electrical storm in your immediate area; calls of an urgent nature should be brief. Although this system uses protective mea- sures to limit abnormal electrical surges from entering your home, absolute protection is impossible. There is a remote risk of a danger- ous electrical shock from lightning when using the telephone during a nearby electrical storm. Use of the telephone to report a gas leak If you think you’ve found a gas leak, you should not use a telephone in the vicinity of the leak until the leak is repaired. The tele- phone contains electrical contacts that could generate a tiny spark when you lift the handset
and dial. While unlikely, it may be possible for this spark to trigger an explosion if the gas concentration is high enough. *For information about any telephone service, call our business office.
