Brandenburg Telephone Company, Inc. Lifeline Service Offering As part of its service offerings, Brandenburg Telephone Company offers Lifeline to assist qualifying low-income individuals with the charges for their telephone or broadband service. This program is a federal benefit and is part of the Federal Universal Service Fund program instituted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and overseen by the Universal Service Administration Company (USAC). The Lifeline discount may be applied to any residential local voice service or broadband service above 4 meg downstream / 1 meg upstream offered by Brandenburg Telephone, unless a higher speed is required by the FCC. The current discount provided under the Company’s Lifeline service is up to $12.75 per month for each month that the customer qualifies. The program is limited to one benefit per household consisting of either wireline or wireless service. An individual must meet certain eligibility criteria, such as receiving: 1. Medicaid 5 . Veterans Pension Benefit Program 2. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) 6. Survivors Benefit Program 3. Federal Public Housing Assistance 4. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) A customer may also qualify if their household income is at or below 135 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Household is defined as any individual or group of individuals who live together at the same address and share income and expenses. Other terms and conditions apply. Supporting documentation of the above is required, and Lifeline recipients must annually recertify their eligibil- ity in order to avoid loss of Lifeline benefit. Similarly, as long as a qualified individual agrees to toll blocking, that individual is not required to pay a deposit prior to our service being offered. Conditions in our current Local Tariff filed with the Kentucky Public Service Commission also apply. Consumers who willfully make false statements in order to obtain benefit can be punished by fine or imprisonment or can be barred from the program.
