Notice Automatic Number Identification… When you dial a 700, 800, 888 or 900 number from your telephone, your telephone number may be transmitted to the company you have called and may be available to that company before your call is answered. Cellular 911 Calls… When calling 9-1-1 on a cellular phone, be prepared to provide the following information: your name, cellular phone number, nature of the emergency, and the location of the inci-

by a telephone company operator or a 9-1-1 dispatcher outside of your area. Privacy Considerations… The 9-1-1 emer- gency telephone number quickly summons emergency service in a crisis. When you report an emergency by dialing 9-1-1, your telephone number (including nonpublished numbers) and address may be automatically displayed on a viewing screen located at the 9-1-1 answering centers and your call may also be recorded. This display of the calling number and address enables the emergency agency to quickly locate the caller even if the call is disrupted by the crisis.

Repair Service

Determine the Source of the Problem Before You Call BBT is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the telephone lines to your home or business. However, we are not responsible for the problem if the problem is in your tele- phone set. If we make a customer requested service call and deter- mine the problem is

• If the phones appear to be in good work- ing order, take a working phone to your Network Interface Device (Protector). The following is a drawing of your Protector, which is usually located on the outside wall of your home or business, near the electric meter. (It is where BBT’s lines and your inside telephone wiring connect, or interface.) Open the Protector by loosening the screw, then lift outer cover straight up. Remove the phone jack and insert the phone jack from your phone.

caused by your telephone set(s) and not by our facilities, you will be billed a premises visit charge of $45.00. In addition, you will be billed a maintenance of service charge of $75.00 per half hour, beginning from the time a technician is dispatched to the premises. Any fraction of a half hour will be computed as one half hour. If the trouble is not your telephone set but in the telephone line, you will not be charged a premises visit charge or any maintenance of service charge. Below are some ways to help you determine the source of your problem. • Look for symptoms like cracked plastic housing, broken or frayed cords or lights that don’t work. • If you have more than one phone, make sure each phone’s receiver is on the hook. If none of them are off the hook, unplug every phone. Then start plugging them back into the wall jacks one at a time, checking each phone for a dial tone as you go. The telephone set that causes the line to go dead is the broken one. • If you have just one phone, unplug it and borrow someone else’s. If the borrowed phone works, then the problem is in your telephone set.

If the problem remains the same when you plug in your phone at the Protector, the prob- lem is in your outside telephone lines. Please call 1-800-592-4781 for repair service. If the trouble is found in the telephone wiring inside your home, you can either: • Hire an electrical contractor, or • Save money by doing the work yourself.

Repair Service

Determine the Source of the Problem Before You Call

If It’s Your Phone… Leave the broken telephone unplugged and contact the company you purchased or leased it from for the repair. BBT is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the telephone lines to your home or business. It is important to try to make sure the problem is not in your telephone set, because if we come out and find the problem is in your set, you will be charged a $45.00 premise visit fee and an additional $75.00 per half hour mainte- nance of service fee for each repair visit. If the problem is not in your telephone set, call toll free 1-800-592-4781 .

If It’s BBT’s Line… Again, if you’ve determined that the trouble is not in your telephone set but in the telephone line, please call BBT for repair service. If you have reported that you are unable to make or receive calls and your line is out of order for 24 hours or longer from the

time of the report, you are entitled to a credit on your next bill for part of the local service charges. If the adjustment doesn’t appear on your next bill, call your business office. To contact BBT’s repair service, call 1-800-592-4781 .

Credit for Wrong Numbers and Poor Connections If you dial a wrong number, call the “0” Operator (if you are calling inside the Midland LATA – See shaded area on map page 12), or call the “00” operator (if you are calling outside the Midland LATA – See shaded area on map page 12), and give the number you attempted to reach. In most cases, you’ll be credited for the call. Once in a while you may get a bad connection or be cut off on a long distance call. Both parties should hang up and the one who placed the call should dial the “0” or “00” Operator and explain the trouble. The operator will get you a better connection and have the charge adjusted appropriately as per the long distance companies’ policy.

Customer Information

Directory Information Looking for more business? Advertise in the telephone compa- ny’s Yellow Pages. Call your local service office for information at 1-800-592-4781. Additional local directories may be obtained at your service office. Directory Listings

Your name will automatically be added to our white pages when you have a phone installed unless you ask for an Unlisted Number. You can add other phone numbers if you wish: Additional Residence Listings Are for other people in your household. Additional Business Listings Can put your name as well as your business’s name in the White Pages. Alternate Call Listings Give another phone number for after-hours calls or if there is no one to answer at the first phone number. Every effort is made to make the directory as accurate as possible. If an error occurs, please advise the service office so the listing can be corrected in future directories. Number Changes The telephone company reserves the right to, and may, at its discretion, change the customer’s telephone number. Handling Unwanted Phone Calls

If you do not want to talk to a person selling a product or ser- vice by telephone, just say “no thank you,” and hang up. If you’re bothered by harassing or anonymous phone calls, try these techniques to discourage them.

Always hang up immediately at the first obscene word or if the person on the other end of the line doesn’t respond after you’ve said “hello” twice. Don’t talk to the caller. This is what he or she wants you to do. Don’t give out any information or let the caller know if you’re alone. Teach your children to say, “Mom or Dad can’t come to the phone. May I take a message?” If the problem occurs continuously over an extended period, you should report it to your local law enforcement agency. Keep a record of the days and times of the calls, and

note the caller’s sex, voice, accent and comments. This information could assist the police. It is a crime to make harassing, obscene or anonymous phone calls under both federal and state laws.
