The Volcano Theatre Company Our inaugural production in 1974 was Neil Simon’s “Prison er of Second Avenue” – the first performance of that work by any amateur group in California. From that venturesome beginning, we have given audiences more than two de cades of quality theatrical entertainment. Since 1989, the Volcano Theatre Company has been nominated for 49 “El lys” and carried away nine. (The Elly is the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance’s equivalent of an Oscar or Tony.) The Company’s home, the Cobblestone Theatre, was built in 1856 as Adolph Meyer’s Tobacco & Cigar Emporium, and lat er housed Lavezzo’s Wine Shop. A disastrous 1900 fire, fueled by a cellar full of high proof spirits, destroyed all but the stur dy stone walls you see today. Restored as an art gallery in the 1960s, the building was leased by the VTC in 1974. Through the generosity of the Thebaut family, we acquired the title in 1989. Over the years, the success of our Company has enabled us not only to greatly improve the facilities of the little Cobble stone Theatre, but also to acquire the property across the street for an amphitheatre. Fronted by the carefully-restored gold-rush façade of the Hale Sash and Door Company, the amphitheatre provides a larger venue for our summer pro ductions – and a delightful pre-performance picnic site.

Seating in the Cobblestone Theatre is very limited, so we urge you to get tickets for the spring and fall perfor mances as soon as possible, and to arrive early for best seating. The summer shows are held in our beautifully-re designed amphitheatre just across Main Street from the Cobblestone Theatre in Volcano. Main Street Theatre Works 2025 marks Main Street Theatre Works’ 31st season. This professionally-orient ed company has been recognized by the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Al liance (SARTA) with 101 Elly nominations and 28 Elly awards in the last 15 years. The SARTA organization judges shows in a 75 mile radius of Sacramento and is the equivalent of an Academy Award or Tony Award for smaller companies. Originally housed in the Sutter Creek Theatre, MSTW volunteers built the enchanting Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre when they lost their lease in Sutter Creek. Set amongst stately oaks, patrons can walk past one of the remain ing tailing wheels and over the old Broadway street bridge into grassy ter races set under twinkling stars. Patrons are encouraged to bring chairs and picnic dinners to enjoy in this wonderful setting prior to the opening of the show. Join them for their 2025 season this summer.
