Explore & Enjoy Mokelumne Hill History Society Archives and exhibits of historical memorabilia from the Mokelumne Hill area boom days. Murphys Old Timer’s Museum 209-728-1160 Dedicated to the preservation of the history and artifacts of Murphys and its generations since the Gold Rush. North wall is the E. Clampus Vitus Wall of Comparative Ovations. Railtown 1897 State Historic Park 209-984-3953 A 26-acre Jamestown roundhouse and shop complex is located within this his toric state park. Visitors can ride steam trains and tour the living museum. Roaring Camp Mining Co. 209-296-4100 A 49ers gold camp with prospector’s cabins, snack bar, and swimming on Mokelumne River. Shenandoah Valley Museum 209-245-6554 A museum about the early farm history and wine-making that is a part of a Cal ifornia Historical Landmark. It is housed in one of California’s oldest wineries. Founded in 1856 by the Uhlinger family from Switzerland, it has been in contin uous operation since before the Civil War. Full-scale horse-drawn wagons, farm implements, wine-making tools, furniture, and antiques. Located in Plymouth. The Sierra Nevada Logging Museum 209-795-6782 This museum was established to narrate the history and its cultural and social impact on the region. The museum consists of two sections: an outdoor site at the west end of White Pines Lake, where the “shell” of the permanent museum building was built in 2001. Thursday through Sunday – Noon until 4 p.m., located at 2148 Dunbar Rd, Arnold. At the outdoor site, visitors will encounter a steam donkey, two caterpillar tractors, logging arches and a portable sawmill. The in door site includes videos, recorded oral histories, photo albums, and logging dis plays. Open Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Tours are available for school groups.

Chaw’se is the native name for the mortar holes that were used to pulverize acorns, nuts, seeds, and berries. The rock is covered with 363 petroglyphs. The roundhouse is used for meetings and religious activities. Other Indian buildings have been carefully re constructed from written descriptions. Campground, picnic sites.
